The benefits of a study programme
There are many advantages to joining FP. As well as improving their experience and understanding of Buddha’s beautiful instructions, the student benefits from regular contact and support with the Sangha (spiritual friends).
The purpose of the Foundation Program is to provide a systematic presentation of Mahayana Buddhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddha's teachings.
Because students attend regularly each class can build on the preceding teaching, and in this way we can cover profound topics in detail.
FP has been running in NKT centres across the world for over a decade, and there are now hundreds of participants who can attest to the unique power of this programme.
The secret of its success lies in the commitment which participants are asked to undertake. Participants sign up for one book and commit themselves to attend every class, to learn the relevant material, and to sit an examination. Committing ourselves in this way, we ward off the waverings of our distracted minds, and set up a practice that enables the teachings to mix with and transform our minds.
Those people who have tried to practise for years without a programme and without these commitments are especially appreciative of this.
